Surprisingly this airport handles around a three quarters of a million passengers each year. The airport offers a couple of shopping opportunities including a good-sized WH Smith's store as well as an Alpha outlet.
Several well-known airlines fly from the airport including BMI, Eastern Airways, FlyGlobespan, Ryanair and Dutch airline KLM, with connections around the world via Holland, as well as charter flights from Thomson Airways and Thomsonfly.

The airport has good road connections and is close to the A67, A66, A19 and the A1 (M) and as recently had major improvements to the connections to its main access road.
Durham Tees Valley parking for short-term visitors is plentiful; there are some more limited facilities at Durham Tees Valley car parking for long term parking needs. They are baby changing facilities in all male and female toilets, as well as cash points and first aid facilities.
There are a couple of food & drink establishments including Café Express which offers both hot and cold snacks as well as a selection of drinks. Café au lait offers very good drink and snack range at all times. There is also a traditional British pub; The Yard of Ale offers food as well as drinks.
Close to the airport there are a couple of hotels including the St Georgia hotel and the Spa Hotel, which both offer attractive views of the countryside and the nearby airport, they have full restaurant facilities and airport departure and arrival information is always available.
